40 Years of NSGS!

The first NSGS conference was held in May 1978. We are celebrating our 40th year with two special activities.  Both end May 31, 2018.
  • Special NSGS Family Recognition Certificates have been issued over the past year and can be ordered through May 31.  You can find information about them--and the application--in downloadable documents.  A sample of one of the certificates is below.
  • Photo/Family Story Campaign.  Photos and the stories behind them can be submitted by members.  Selected photos/stories will be featured in future issues of the Nebraska Ancestree. Photos will be on the cover and the corresponding stories will be printed in the respective issues.  Photos will be put in the rotation on the header of the NSGS website.
Submit photos and stories one of three ways:
    1. Scan photo (300 dpi) and story and email them to
    2. Mail photo and story to NSGS Photo Campaign, PO Box 5608, Lincoln, NE 68505-0608.
    3. Bring your photo and story to NSGS Annual Conference in April. We will scan the photo and story.
Thank you for joining us at NSGS Annual Conference and Membership Meeting, in Columbus!  We learned a lot from our featured speaker, Judy Russell, The Legal Genealogist.  Here is a downloadable brochure, information on area sites, and The Columbus Telegram article on the Conference. 2018 NSGS Conference Brochure. Platte County and Area Site Information. Article: State Genealogy Conference in Columbus. Members, make sure to find the downloadable syllabus under "secure downloads" and everyone can find a "save the date" for 2019 in Grand island with Blaine Bettinger under "downloadable documents".
Send any of your events to a board member to be posted under our Events menu.
WELCOME to the Nebraska State Genealogical Society (NSGS) web site. NSGS was established in 1977 to increase interest in and raise the standards of genealogical research through educational programs, workshops, and the publication of genealogical data.
On this website you will find information for members and non-members. Membership allows you full access to the web site databases as well as the quarterly publication Nebraska Ancestree and The New Brass Key (newsletter). The Members Only section is where you can manage your account and renew your membership. Members also have full access to the Family Recognition files that have been digitized.
We extend our support to individual genealogists, societies, archives, and libraries.
The NSGS moved to a new website host and look when our previous website was compromised. Some features from our previous website are still being completed, but we also have some new features as well. We truly appreciate your understanding in this time of rebuilding. Please take some time to look around the site and send us your comments and ideas!
The "Cemetery Records" section is currently just searchable and viewable. With other cemetery sites being so successful, we have not discussed whether we will continue to add to this.
An Ancestree index will be built so they are searchable and will be added.
**Family Recognition Certificates are searchable by name in the members only section, and more will be coming as time allows for scanning.
The "County Resource" page is now ready for volunteers to sign up for a county to contribute to. Please contact us if you would like to help.
A page with a list of NSGS charter members is listed in members only.
PUBLICATIONS: We NOW have our list of publications back on the website with directions on how to order. Then hopefully later in 2018 we can link it to PayPal so you can make your selections and pay from your computer.
MICROFILM: A list of our microfilm is online. It can be rented by members for a mailing fee. It can also be used in Scottsbluff at no charge.
QUESTIONS: Please use the "contact us" page under the ABOUT section. Thanks for stopping.
