Welcome to our NSGS Website

The Nebraska State Genealogical Society (NSGS) was established in 1977 as a nonprofit organization to promote fellowship and cooperation among those interested in genealogy and family history.

We welcome beginners to advanced researchers. If you are a beginner, we have many experienced researchers to help you get started in your goals. Our Area Representatives will help connect you to local societies or other groups. We support individuals and local Nebraska genealogy groups and societies.

On our website everyone has access to our list of library holdings, publications for purchase, county resources, links to Nebraska local genealogical societies and genealogy related websites, and our blog. Membership allows full access to the website databases including the Family Recognition files that have been digitized, the 1885 census and other early records, Nebraska newspapers list and membership list. Also, members may edit their profiles, enter Surnames into the Surname Research list and access the digital format of our publications Nebraska Ancestree and the New Brass Key.

Genealogy Events
If your organization has a genealogy related event, submit the information to your Area Rep, a board member or email webmaster@nsgs.org to have your event included on our Events page.

Family Recognition Certificates
NSGS offers Family Recognition Certificates for you to honor your Nebraska ancestors who settled in the state as early as 1867 when you prove your lineage to them. See more under Family Certificates.

Publications
NSGS has many publications for sale. Records from around the state have been compiled and published. In the menu on the left, see our full publications list. Order form and instructions to order will be found there.

Nebraska Ancestree submissions
Family stories and photos are welcomed! Photos and the stories behind them can be submitted by anyone. Selected photos/stories will be featured in future issues of the Nebraska Ancestree. Photos may be used on the cover and the corresponding stories will be printed in the respective issues. Photos may be put in the rotation on the header of the NSGS website. Submissions can be sent to editor@nsgs.org  See more information on the Ancestrees page.

Volunteer Opportunities
Currently seeking volunteers to help index archived volumes of Nebraska Ancestrees. Digital issues are availabe on the website to use. Volunteers are asked to index approximately 20 pages in 3-4 weeks' time, or to contact us with any delays. We assign pages so that no 2 people are working on the same pages. Please send an email to Laura Mattingly, NSGSPresident@yahoo.com to volunteer and be assigned pages. Your help is greatly appreciated with this project!

Please use the "Contact Us" page under the About section if you any questions. Thanks for stopping by!
